Podcast: what’s behind the rise in self-harming in Scottish prisons?

Cases in which people try to hurt or kill themselves in prison have risen by over a third in the last four years.

In the latest Business of Ferrets podcast, journalist Cormac Hourigan reports in depth on the situation in Scottish prisons.

Among those who give their perspective on what needs to be done to tackle this growing problem are Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Prisons for Scotland David Strang, civil liberties lawyer Helena Kennedy, Lisa Mackenzie from the Howard League for Penal Reform in Scotland and former prisoners.
